The President Muhammadu Buhari addressed Nigerians today, Thursday, October 22, 2020 with regards to the protests and civil unrest that has occurred in the past few weeks. Here are the major points from the speech:
1. The President stated that the promptness which the government attended to the demands of the youths were taken for granted and as a sign of weakness.
2.Buhari addressed Nigerians today. He also appealed to the International community, organizations and unions to do proper investigation and fact-finding before rushing to judgement and hasty decisions.
3. He noted that the social media was used to spread of intentional falsehood and misinformation. He added that this was do deliberately to mislead and facilitate unfair judgement and disruptive behavior.
4. The President affirmed that his administration is the first to methodically and seriously approach poverty-alleviation especially since the government has created a broad plan to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years.
5. A new salary structure of members of the Nigeria Police Force as been created.
The President, however, didn’t speak on the recent unfortunate event which occured in Lekki Toll Gate Plaza. Men of the Nigerian Army had allegedly opened fire on EndSARS protesters who had disobeyed curfew order to let air their agitations.
