The Ugandan Electoral Commission has declared 71-year-old Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni winner of the 2016 presidential election. The election has been marred by sporadic violence and opposition allegations of electoral fraud, with social media sites and messaging apps blocked. Observers from the European Union and Commonwealth, the latter led by former Nigerian president Obasanjo have openly criticized the election process. Museveni has been President of Uganda since 29 January 1986, 30 years now.With about half the votes counted on Saturday, Museveni had 60 percent of votes to leading challenger Kizza Besigye’s 35 percent. Full results of the votes are expected to be released on Saturday afternoon.
