Augustine Eguavoen has relinquished his position as the interim coach of the Nigeria national team. This comes after the Super Eagles crashed out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tunisia during the knock-out clash on Sunday, January 23, 2022. Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had relieved Gernot Rohr of his duties as Super Eagles Coach and replaced him with Augustine Eguavoen but as interim manager in November 2021. However, while speaking to journalists after the match, Eguavoen said, “What happens next is that I’m the interim coach and Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). “I will go back to my position and allow the NFF (to) make a decision on the way forward”.
