Bitcoin hit a record-high above $43,000 on Monday. This follows Elon Musk’s electric carmaker Tesla investment of $1.5 billion. The digital currency hit $43,725.51 around 1300 GMT. However, it cooled slightly to $42,352. The cryptocurrency is up around 50 percent since the start of the year. Fawad Razaqzada, analyst at ThinkMarkets told AFP that “This is probably one of the biggest developments for the cryptocurrency industry”. “Tesla is going to be a major player in the auto industry and if it starts accepting bitcoin as a form of payment, it will give the digital currency further legitimacy”, he added.Tesla’s move comes after CEO Musk last week changed his Twitter bio to read simply “#bitcoin”.
