Real Madrid defender, Raphael Varane has been ruled out of the team’s squad to play in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Liverpool after testing positive for coronavirus. This was disclosed by Real Madrid in a statement on the club’s official website. “Real Madrid C. F. informs that our player Raphael Varane tested positive in the COVID-19 test he underwent this morning”, the statement read in part. The 27-year-old French international was supposed to start the quarter-final first leg in Spain. This is, however, a big blow for the 13-times European champions as another first-choice central defender, Sergio Ramos had already been sidelined due to an injury he picked up on international duty with Spain.
