Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani has been given a three-match ban and a £100,000 fine. This follows his social media post containing a Spanish phrase that is offensive in some contexts. The former Real Madrid forward pleaded guilty to a Football Association charge of using insulting and/or improper words. Cavani sent the post after scoring a goal that secured a win for Man United at Southampton in November. The Uruguayan, however, deleted the post, apologised and gave the meaning that could be attached to his statement. The 33-year-old ban will begin immediately. Thus, he will be unable to play against Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.
