Former Minister of Power and Steel during ex-president Obasanjo’s first term, Dr. Olu Agunloye has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Social Democratic Party ( SDP). This is ahead of the 2016 gubernatorial election in Ondo State. Agunloye was on Tuesday(2nd February 2016) received by the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae in Akure. This recent defection by Agunloye will make it the 6th for him in his political career.
Agunloye was brought to spotlight in PDP. He later defected to Labour Party before he dumped the party for the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the wake of the 2011 general election when he was denied the party’s senatorial ticket. In 2012, Agunloye contested for the governorship ticket of ACN but lost the ticket to Rotimi Akeredolu, and this prompted him to return to Labour Party before the coming together of LP and PDP in the state. From PDP which was his last political party before this recent defection, the former minister has now joined SDP.On why he defected to SDP, Agunloye said he wants to contribute his quota to the development of the state by running for governor in the coming election.
