The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the Ondo State November 26 governorship election, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), has said he is the only candidate of the party. A parallel primary conducted by the Ali Modu-Sheriff faction, which has now reconciled with Ahmed Makarfi-led faction, had produced Jimoh Ibrahim as candidate. Jegede confirmed his candidacy while addressing party members that trooped out at a roadshow organised for him in Akure, the state capital on Friday. In his words, Jegede said, “What is happening today is a confirmation of what we all know that I’m the only candidate of the PDP and the fact that the PDP’s candidacy has generated some form of interest, because I won’t call it dispute, if confirmed to me that the PDP is a party to beat.
“Otherwise, nobody will show interest. I wonder why everybody is interested in the PDP’s candidate. There was a transparent primary here in Akure, commenced in the morning, concluded late in the afternoon or evening, and a winner emerged and that was myself. INEC was present, both from Akure here and from Abuja; security agents were also there and it was opened for all to see and that, to me, was a confirmation that what we have done was transparent and lawful. Look at the level of support demonstrated by the people both young and old and I am excited by this affirmation and confirmation of friendship by the people who represent voters in Ondo State.”
