The Federal Government may stop paying the salaries of striking doctors if they fail to resume to work. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. Recall that ENewsNigeria earlier reported that members of the National Association of Resident Doctors embarked on an indefinite and nationwide strike on Thursday in protest against non-payment of house officers salaries among others. According to Ngige, the Federal Government through labour law can stop the payment of their salaries of the striking workers. “There are weapons in the Labour Laws, I will invoke them. There is no work, no pay. Their employers have a role also to keep their business afloat, to keep patients alive. They can employ local doctors. We won’t get there but if we are going to get there, we will use that stick”, he said.
