Gunmen have attacked communities in Ohaukwu Local Government Area (LGA) of the Ebonyi state leaving at least 20 houses burnt down. It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the area at about 4AM. The Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi, Aliyu Garba, who confirmed the incident to The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the gunmen attacked Ebele village, Umuogodo Akpu, Mgbo in the LGA. Garba said: “on the effects of Sunday attack, it is yet to be ascertained. We are yet to get any report from there and I have not been around. I am waiting for the report.’’ Mr Stanley Okoro-Emegha, Commissioner for Internal Security and Border Peace, also told NAN that he was yet to get details of the attack.“They said it was communal crisis, while others said it was herdsmen who carried out the attack, but we do not know the people behind the attack yet. This fresh attack follows similar invasion of five communities in the state – Egedege, Obegu, Amazu, Nkalagu and Umuhuali, last month by gunmen. Furthermore, the attack is coming barely 24 hours after the south-east governors set up a joint security outfit for the region.
