The erstwhile Senator who represented Ogun East in the 8th National Assembly, Senator Buruji Kashamu is dead. Breaking the news of his death this evening, Silverbird Group founder Senator Ben Murray-Bruce on Twitter tweeted: “I have just lost my good friend of forever to #COVID19. Until his death, Sen. Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable. He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos. May his gentle soul rest in peace. I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss.”
While the effects of COVID-19 on the lungs are well-known, there are two cardiac issues related to COVID-19: heart failure, when the heart muscle doesn’t pump blood as well as it should, and arrhythmias, or abnormal heart rhythms, that can be related to the infection or to the effect of medications used to treat the virus. Heart failure can also develop due to a systemic inflammatory response to the infection, high lung pressures from lung damage, or occur from heart inflammation known as myocarditis.
Senator Buruji Kashamu died at the age of 62 years, less than 3 months after his birthday.
