The Akwa Ibom state governor, Udom Emmanuel, has said the investigation of former political office holders in the state by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) is not aimed at any particular person. Udom said he has never been distracted by the activities of the anti-graft agency and that his government would continue to give the needed support to the commission.
Speaking during a media chat in the government house, the Governor said, “The anti corruption fight is not aimed at any particular person and the EFCC is not a thorn in the flesh of Akwa Ibom State Government. Besides, I have never been distracted by the EFCC and my government would continue to give the needed support to the commission. So, I am appealing to all the speculators and rumour mongers to please allow the anti-graft agency to do its work.
“I want the people to be patient with my administration as we are trying our best to be on top of every situation. Besides, I am not a magician. There are so many things we are doing that people don’t know about. For instance, I have used my property twice as collateral to collect loan to pay salaries of workers in the state. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is here, you can ask him. Another issue is the flood in the state, it has not been an easy task. The flood at IBB Avenue in Uyo, for instance requires the sum about N52bn to address.”
