Kepler Laveran de Lima Ferreira, a.k.a, Pepe has been ruled out of Portugal’s first three upcoming World Cup qualifiers after suffering an injury. The 38-year-old had picked up a muscle injury in his right leg in a 2-1 league win for Porto in Portimonense on Saturday. Portugal will begin their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign for Qatar against Azerbaijan in Turin on Wednesday. As disclosed by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Pepe will be replaced by Sporting defender Luis Neto in coach Fernando Santos’ squad. The former Real Madrid defender was due to return to the Selecao for the first time since October. The European champions then travel to Serbia on Saturday and Luxembourg three days later.
