Kano State government has declared that all contestants in the forthcoming local government election will undergo a compulsory drug test. Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Murtala Sule Garo disclosed this yesterday at National Drug Law Enforcement Agency workshop. He stated the decision was part of government efforts to purge Kano of drug abuse. He added that all employees at the 44 local government areas of the state are to undergo similar test. “The Governor will mandate all and any aspirants for the councillorship and chairmanship seats to undergo a drug test at the NDLEA headquarters in Kano. Similarly, the Governor organized this two-day workshop to sensitize and create awareness for our workers across the 44 Local government areas in order to be aware and cautious of drug abuse.” he said. In addition, this election is to hold January 16th, 2021.
