US President-Elect, Joe Biden, has appointed Nigerian-born attorney, Adewale ‘Wally’ Adeyemo, as Deputy Treasury Secretary. This is reported by US-based media Politico on Sunday.
Here are few things to know about him:
- He was born in Nigeria but raised in California.
- He got his legal education from Yale Law School after bagging a bachelor’s degree in California.
- Adeyemo is also an economist and he is a former senior international economic adviser during the Obama administration.
- He previously worked as an editor at the Hamilton Project.
- The attorney also as senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to Jack Lew in the United States Department of Treasury.
- He moved on to become the chief negotiator for the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
- He graciously served as the first chief of staff of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under Elizabeth Warren.
- In 2015, he was appointed to concurrently serve as Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics and deputy director of the National Economic Council.
- Adeyemo is the first president of the Obama Foundation (2019)
- He will serve under former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen. Biden selected Yellen as head the US Treasury Department.
