8 players of Nigerian heritage have been drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Arewa, disclosed this on her official twitter handle today.
The NBA is an American men’s professional basketball league. The 2020 edition of the yearly NBA Draft presented by State Farm was held virtually on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from ESPN’s studios in Bristol, Connecticut, United States Of America.
Talented basketballers who are qualified and desire to join the league are drafted by various clubs.
Nigeria had a full representation this year. Among the drafted talents were 2 Nigerians born and bread in the country, 3 with Nigerian parents who reside in the U.S and final 3 with Nigerian fathers.
These lucky Nigerians drafted are:
- Jordan Nwora: Milwaukee
- Udoka Azubuike: Utah
- Issac Okoro: Cleveland
- Desmond Bane: Boston
- Onyeka Okongwu: Atlanta
- Precious Achiuwa: Miami
- Zeke Nnaji: Denver
- Daniel Oturu: Minnesota
