Following reports in some sections of the media that the Federal Government reportedly swapped some Boko Haram terrorists in exchange for the 21 Chibok girls who were released yesterday, the administration has dismissed these as untrue. In a tweet to a report by an online portal which stated that “A Nigerian government source said they paid ransom to Boko Haram fighters today to gain release 21 Chibok girls today”, the Federal Government via the verified Twitter handle of the Office of Digital Engagement said, “This—like the news of a ‘Swap’, and the reports that several of the girls are nursing mothers—is FALSE and should be disregarded.President has repeatedly expressed his openness to a swap. If indeed swap happened FGN has no reason to conceal it. But no swap took place.”
