The Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Gbolahan Lawal, has eulogized the Lagos State Head of Service, Hakeem ‘HMO’ Muri-Okunola who turns 50 today. In an Instagram message, the first-class king said: “John Ruskin once said “The first test of a truly great man is his humility. By humility, I don’t mean doubt of his powers or hesitation in speaking his opinion, but merely an understanding of the relationship of what he can say and what he can do.” There are no truer words.
“I celebrate this great Man, The Head of Service, Lagos State – Hakeem Muri Okunola (HMO) as he takes his gallant stride to the fifth floor, not just because it’s his birthday but because he is many things to many people, especially myself. He is as dear to me as a brother and as a friend, he is caring and looks out for his own, he is loyal and always ready to help out. As a person, I would say that he is calm and humble, intelligent, resilient and highly intellectual.
“As a former colleague, I can say that he is highly professional, has great work ethics, he is reliable, hardworking and efficient. He has selflessly committed himself to the service of Lagos State and by extension Nigeria, for decades. This is commendable. Most people won’t know this but he is fun to be with, a great dad and husband… These and so much more are the qualities I celebrate in him.
“As you attain your ‘Golden Jubilee’, may all you place your hands on turn to gold. May all your endeavours be successful and may you live to a ripe old age, enjoying the fruits of your labour. Ase! Please join me as I welcome the latest member of the fifties’ Gang! Cheers to more life 🥂”
