Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius has been freed from a South African prison Monday after serving a jail term less than a year for the 2013 shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, a law graduate and model. Confirming his release, the double-amputee’s lawyer, Brian Webber said that the 28-year-old sprinter is now staying at an uncle’s house under correctional supervision. Recall Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide and entered prison Oct. 21, 2014. The International Paralympic Committee said Pistorius would be barred from competition — including the 2016 games in Rio — until he completes his jail term.
