Mr. Ropo Adesanya, landlord of the property being used as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Ekiti State, has dragged the opposition party to court over N1.5 million rent. While being led in evidence by his counsel, Kolade Ilesanmi, before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Adesanya said the rent on the 4 flats of the 3-bedroom expired in August 2014. He disclosed that the party refused to renew it despite his efforts to collect the outstanding rent.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after Chief Magistrate Idowu Ayenimo adjourned the case to November 9 for further hearing, the Ekiti PDP chairman, Chief Idowu Faleye, said: “We did not refuse to leave the property. He brought the letter to us and we asked him to give us time. I don’t see any justification in going to court because I will have to pass the request to the appropriate authorities. I believe there are motives behind it since he has now gone to court. If he consents to an out-of-court settlement, why not? We are not jittery at all”.
