The deputy vice-chancellor (academics), Adebola Ekanola, has been elected as the acting vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI). The professor was elected on today, November 30th, 2020 by the senate of the institution. This election stems from the fact that tenure of Idowu Olayinka the varsity’s VC, expired today. Ekanola got 275 votes to beat four other professors nominated for the position. His selection is has been approved by the varsity’s governing council. Some of his opponents were, Former Dean, Faculty of Technology, A. Oluleye; Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Academic) Adigun Agbaje; Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Gbemisola Oke; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, Olanike Adeyemo.
