An early morning fire has razed South Africa’s parliament in Cape Town on Sunday, January 2, 2021. Moloto Mothapo, spokesperson of the parliament confirmed the incident in a statement. An entire floor was lost to the inferno with the roof collapsing. According to Mothapo, the cause of the fire is yet to be known. He added, “No person has been injured. The Presiding Officers of Parliament are distressed by this incident and the extent of the damage caused thus far to the precincts of the seat of the national legislature”.
