The death has been announced of Dr. Egeruan Babatunde Imoukhuede from the famous Imoukhuede in Edo State. The foremost epidemiologist is said to have died on 18th July 2016. Before his demise, Dr. Imoukhuede held various positions across the epidemiology field. He was Director of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs, European Malaria Vaccine Initiative (now European Vaccine Initiative).Imoukhuede started focusing on malaria when working as a Clinical Research Fellow/Malaria Vaccine Trial Director for the Gates Malaria Partnership at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
He gained extensive hands on experience while working at military hospitals in Nigeria and The Gambia, complemented by field experience as clinical epidemiologist and principal investigator between 2001 – 2004 at the Medical Research Council, The Gambia. He had several scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals to his credit. Imoukhuede graduated in 1984, with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the University of Benin, Nigeria augmented by a degree in Health Systems Management at the LSHTM in 2003.
