The Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of PDP, has in his cabinet 25 commissioners and about an equal number of special advisers. Since Okowa was sworn in on May 29, 2015, he has engaged about 1, 500 appointees in his 4-month-old administration. A breakdown of the appointees includes commissioners who are entitled to at least 5 aides, while the governor and his deputy have over 5 executive assistants, hundreds of senior special assistants, special assistants and personal assistants, appointed into special duties, media/press, protocol, security and other political offices. Also appointed by Okowa are a 31-man State Advisory Council and appointments into most of the boards, parastatals and agencies of the state government. This is aside the appointments in the legislature, where the speaker is entitled to over 50 aides, deputy speaker, about 40 aides, and the 27 legislators have 5 aides each.
