One of the aspirants in the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Dr. Tunji Abayomi, has faulted the decision of the Electoral Appeal Committee of the party that recommended the cancellation of result of the election. The primary of the party held on September 3, 2016, was won by a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu. However the results of the election were challenged at the Election Appeal Committee of the party by three of the aspirants, Chief Olusola Oke; Dr. Segun Abraham and Senator Ajayi Boroffice. Abayomi on Tuesday said, “The delegates’ list used for the primary was supplied by the party. So it is the party itself that is condemning its own action.
“Under the law, if there are irregularities, you have to show that the winner of the election is responsible for the irregularities. I am the dean of all the aspirants of the party and to the best of my knowledge, no aspirant tampered with the delegates’ list and no aspirant could say he benefited from delegates’ list that was alleged to have been doctored. Anyway, we are waiting for the decision of the National Working Committee of the party. We assume that they will look at all issues and come up with a position that will help the party in this state to win the forthcoming election. Should the NWC of the party finally approve the recommendation of the committee, all members of the party would abide by the decision.”
