Nigerian senators on Wednesday advised that President Buhari should remove the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma and finance minister, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, over the economic recession facing the country. The Senators made the call when they tarted their debate on the state of the country’s economy during Wednesday’s plenary. Contributing to the debate, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu said Adeosun and Udoma should be redeployed. “The president needs to look at his cabinet. He has to put square pegs in square holes. Your Excellency, distinguished colleagues, Udo Udoma is my friend, an accomplished lawyer for that matter but in fairness to him, I believe he can do better in another ministry especially like trade and investment certain not Budget and Planning.
“The minister for finance can do much better in another ministry. At this critical time we need somebody who is more experienced to man the ministry of finance so that he can be able to coordinate the strategies for this recovery. We need to go all out and look for the best brain to come and help us out of this recession.” Supporting the redeployment of the ministers, Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West) said: “President Buhari must rejig his cabinet. It is not out of tune to sack all incompetent ministers who find themselves where they lack expertise.” But Senator Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna central) kicked against the removal of the Ministers saying, “Finding a scapegoat or shifting blames would not get us out of the problem. Removing Adeosun will not solve the problems. The poor in Nigeria are always in recession, the present only worsened their hardship. We need to cut our interest rate, diversify our economy and empower small businesses. These are keys to get us out of the recession.”
