Former Green Eagles’ defender Yisa Sofoluwe, popularly known as Dean of Defence, died on Tuesday evening. Sofoluwe passed away at the Intensive Care Unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH. He had been diagnosed for mild cerebral atrophy at the Prince and Life Medical Hospital, Ikorodu, Lagos, but was moved to LUTH on Friday, after his medical condition became worse. Mild Cerebral Atrophy is a gradual loss of brain cells that leads to loss of memory and a huge threat to life.The Maroc ’88 Africa Cup of Nations star was on a life support machine and it was gathered that about N100,000 monthly was required to foot his medical bills. Ex-international Waidi Akanni, his close friend and Dosu Joseph, an ex-Eagles goalkeeper and confirmed his death to The PUNCH. Sofoluwe was a 53-year-old Africa Cup of Nations silver medalist who won two FA Cups in 1985 and 1987.
